What if I told you that there is an enchanted garden full of beautiful flowers, trees and greenery. A place where birds sing, butterflies flutter and there is talk that fairies exist. Would you be excited? Well it’s true and it’s only a short 15 minute drive from Temecula. Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens is located right over the hill in the quaint town of Fallbrook. Here you can roam the gardens free of charge, shop at their beautiful nursery. Sip on some delicious myrtle berry lemonade, munch on some delicious farm to table goodness and take home a myrtle berry pie. Plus, they also have a Fairy Garden Workshop where you can create your own beautiful fairy garden to take back home with you. We visited Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens this past weekend as part of our 9 year old daughter’s birthday weekend and I absolutely fell in love with this place. Read on to see why…

1 Gorgeous Grounds

Grapes on a vine at Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens in Fallbrook CA | Global Munchkins

From the minute you pull in to the parking lot at Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens you are greeted by beauty. There are grapes growing on the vine on your right and a bunch of beautiful trees and perennials on your left. Walk a little further and stand under the enormous oak trees as you breathe in that fresh country air. Immediately you feel rejuvenated. Continue your stroll and come across the wild bird sanctuary

Walking through the beautiful shaded space set aside for the birds was quite the treat. I am not normally a bird lover but there was something special about wandering in there amongst the greenery and listening to the birds sing. It felt very distant from regular life and was incredibly relaxing. I had taken my daughter and her cousin/ best friend to the gardens as part of her birthday weekend. And, I was so pleased at how much they loved the gardens.

Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens has an onsite nursery which is full or lush and vibrant plant life, flowers and succulents. Unlike many of the Temecula nurseries where the plants seem a bit dreary these ones were full of life. You can tell they are very well cared for.

As you can see the property is very rustic and charming with little ponds, fountains and antique buildings at every turn. I’m not sure what their photography rules are but it would make the perfect backdrop for our annual family photos. I just love that red barn in the back.

And, speaking of photography that reminds me… it also has a large event space that would be perfect for a garden wedding!! Or in a few years for me maybe a 40th birthday??? ((hint… hint… Mikey)).

2 Delicious Food

Myrtle Berry Lemonade from Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens. They have an onsite cafe called Cafe Bloom and it's delicious. Located in Fallbrook CA | Global Munchkins

Fallbrook is a pinch cooler than Temecula but it can still be pretty hot. So, I recommend stopping by Cafe Bloom on property and grabbing an ice cold myrtle berry lemonade to take with you while you stroll the grounds. Although, more than likely once you head into Cafe Bloom you are likely to get real hungry and need to order something delicious. They have scrumptious farm to table organic salads and sandwiches as well as tasty pastries and treats. They serve both hot and iced coffees & teas. Plus,  there is a whole case filled with pie. Mostly, myrtle berry as that is their specialty but there are always a few others lingering in there to entice you as well.

Cafe Bloom also hosts different events. We happened to come while it was Arts & Crepes month. Lucky us as they were making fresh sweet or savory crepes right before our eyes. I had an amazing savory crepe filled with ham, bacon, mushrooms, onions and avocado topped with gruyere cheese. I have not had a more delicious crepe anywhere… including France! Check out what events are coming up on the Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens Events Page.

Another fun feature at Cafe Bloom is their picnic baskets and blankets. You simply request them when you order so that you can take your lunch and dine under the beautiful oak trees. Of course there are plenty of tables on the patio or spread out around the property should you prefer.

3 DIY Fairy Garden Workshop

DIY Fairy Garden Workshop located at Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens in Fallbrook CA near Temecula. Great activity to do with kids in Temecula | Global Munchkins

The real reason we had come to visit was to check out Myrtle Creek’s DIY Fairy Garden Workshop. My daughter is in love with all things fairy. And, what is more adorable than a little girl wrapped up in the magical land of fairies… nothing in my book. I LOVE that Myrtle Creek offers this.

How it works is:

Step 1: You pick a container

Step 2: You fill it with flowers, plants or succulents of your choosing and place them in your pot along with some soil

Step 3: You decorate your fairy garden with moss, geodes, small pebbles and adorable little fairy architecture and porcelain fairies and animals.

I had thought this would be a fairly quick activity. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how detailed the girls were in their gardens and how much time they spent perfecting them. It was one of the most unique and creative things we have done near Temecula. And, it was a huge hit! I will warn you though. All those tiny porcelain pieces can add up so you may want to go in with a dollar amount each kid can spend or you could walk out of there with some sticker shock 😉

You can easily spend several hours wandering around the beautiful property checking out the wild birds, butterflies and eating a yummy farm to table fresh meal. Even though it is super close you will feel like you are miles away from home.
