Touring with Arcanum Glacier Tours- a review

If you want to do a tour the whole family will love then look no further than Arcanum Glacier Tours. They offer a variety of tours, all jam-packed with adventure. You can go snowmobiling to the top of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, on a few different glacier walks, or you can ride quad bikes to the beautiful black sand beaches of Vik.

Quad Bike Tour Review

While touring around Iceland, our destination editor, Emilee, went on the quad bike tour and she enjoyed every single second of it!

The tour begins at the Arcanum base where guests suit up in the proper gear for their trip. Guests also listen to a safety briefing and meet their guide. Arcanum keeps the tour group sizes very small which allows you to not only get to know your guide better but also to get all the insider information too!

The adventure begins as guests drive their ATV across some small rivers splashing water as they go. Read as- prepare to get wet! After guests cross the small rivers, they arrive at the black sand beach.

The sand comes from the dormant volcano Katla, so the beach is actually made up of lava sand and volcanic ash. There are several additional stops where guests get to see whale bones that washed up on the shore and a US Navy plane that crashed on the beach in 1973. Guests also get a glimpse of the volcano Katla in the distance. The final stop is at the river Jökulsá where the guides may even let you take a drink straight from the river! Emilee said, “it was incredibly refreshing!”

The scenery guests experience while on this ATV tour is out of this world. Iceland is breathtaking, and there is no better way to experience the vast and varying landscapes than on a fast, fun-filled ATV adventure.

What is included?

This tour includes the ATV, an insulated coverall, a helmet, a snowmobile balaclava face mask, and a super fun tour guide who will make your adventure very fun and informative. Emilee’s tour guide was Björn and he was awesome!

For this action- packed adventure, you will need to bring warm clothing (layer up) and we recommend some warm gloves as well. It will probably get a bit chilly on your adventure, but don’t worry! When you get back to the Arcanum Base, there is coffee and hot chocolate to warm you and your munchkins up.

If your family loves action-packed adventures then you have to take a tour with Arcanum! It will be one of the highlights of your trip to Iceland.
