With a little place like Lahaina, the possibilities for keeping busy are really endless. With so many top things to do in Lahaina, you and your guests, whether your family or friends, will be entertained 24/7! Every year the munchkins and I head to Maui and while we love Wailea, we always spend at least one day in Lahaina. This cute little town is filled with plenty of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Whale Watching
One of the best things to do when you’re in Lahaina is to take advantage of one of the many Whale and dolphin watching cruises that they have in the area. Enjoy a beautiful mini cruise off of the coast of Maui with some of the most amazing views of the island. Some popular cruise lines to check out are Lahaina Cruise Company, Hawaiian Ocean Project, and Pacific Whale Foundation. If you come during whale season, you won’t believe how incredible it is to see a humpback whale close up. They are simply incredible creatures. It was truly one of my favorite experiences in my life.
Snorkeling
When in Hawaii one of the things that you must do is snorkel! Lahaina really is a great place to take on snorkeling! There are plenty of different options for snorkeling in Lahaina, but some of the best is taking a tour out to the Molokini Snorkeling Adventure, Lanai Snorkel Adventure from Kaanapali, and Dolphin and Snorkel Adventure from Lahaina to Lanai. There are so many good spots to snorkel on this side of the island, as you’ll see over 200 species of fish, swim with turtles, explore underwater caves, and see some of the most beautiful beaches on the island!
Luau
One of the more obvious, yet staple things to do while in Hawaii is to attend a Luau! There are a plethora of different Luau’s throughout the entire island but some of the best are right in Lahaina. If you plan on going to a Luau while you’re out there some of the best and most traditional luau’s to attend are the Old Lahaina Luau Maui, Myths of Maui Luau, The Feast at Lele, and the Kaanapali Sunset Luau! Personally, the Old Lahaina Luau is the Best (you can check out my review here)
Hit the Beach
Maui has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world to relax on. Whether you’re looking to soak up some sun, swim, snorkel, or surf, Lahaina has beaches for everyone to enjoy! In Lahaina is a great little beach called “Baby Beach” This is a lovely little beach that is close to the town. The sand is gorgeous and the water is warm. The nice thing is that it is perfect for little kids as the water doesn’t have an undertow making it great for just wading in.
Hiking
Hawaii has so much to offer when it comes to hiking! It truly has something for everyone from novice hikers to those that are extreme daredevils! Some of the more popular hikes in the Lahaina area include the Lahaina Pali Trail. The Lahaina Pali trail is not the easiest of trails, it is a bit rocky but has some absolutely incredible views. I recommend going early in the morning, as the trails does not have much shade and can get quite warm.
Lahaina Front Street
While you’re in Lahaina this is definitely a touristy must do! You’ll find plenty of delicious restaurants, gift shops, art galleries, and a historical walking tour along this street. It is a fun, easy, and quick activity for you and the family to all enjoy together.
See the Legendary Bayan Tree
Why see a tree? Just wait til’ you see it. Located right on Front Street in Lahaina is this amazing banyan tree. This legendary tree was imported from India, and planted in April 1873. Today, it is over 60 feet high and looks like a mini forest with several tree trunks! The Bayan Tree is known for being the biggest in the whole USA!! On the weekend’s, local artists and crafters set up booths filled with their work, and many musicians and hula dancers make their way out to put on a show.
Learn Surfing at the Break Wall
The Break Wall is a great place to learn how to surf. The marina has a wall that breaks the surf to protect the boats from large waves. For newbies, this is the place to go.
Enjoy Some Authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice
Ululani’s Shave Ice is one of the top rated shave ice stands in Maui. They have a wide variety of incredible flavors, and a must try is the condensed milk topping. They have 5 Stars on Yelp with over 2,500 ratings!
Dining, Dining & More Dining
We always head to Lahaina town for a meal as their ar so many offerings. Often times we stop by the original Cheeseburger in Paradise. Other great restaurants to eat at are Leilani’s which has an amazing chicken avocado sandwich, Hula Grill (get their Hula Pie), and now a Monkeypod Kitchen, which is my favorite restaurant in Wailea.
