I am so excited to be heading to the LA Auto Show later this month. I absolutely love cars and our family happens to be in the market to purchase not just one, but two vehicles in the next year or so since our oldest son Camden will be driving soon. What better place to check out all the cars and compare them side by side, test drive competing models one right after the other, and learn about new models being released soon than the LA Auto Show? Do you know that this year the LA Auto Show will have over 1,000 cars making it one of the world’s largest auto shows? Pretty amazing, right? Do you want to know what else is amazing?? What is the LA Auto Show?
The LA Auto Show is a massive car convention that happens annually in Los Angeles. Over a million people attend the event each year. Attendees come to experience hassle-free car shopping, explore the latest technology, test drive some of the cars, and check out the incredible assortment of customized rides & exotics. They also have neat interactive exhibits and really neat cars that the kids will enjoy too. The show is happening this year in Los Angeles December 1-10th, 2017. You can learn more about the LA Auto Show right here.
Personally, I am looking forward to going to the LA Auto Show because we have been looking at several Honda vehicles and this will give me the chance to check them out in person and really compare the different models. One of the cars that have caught my eye is the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Even with Camden driving next year, I still have four more kids to haul around which means a minivan is my best option. The New Honda Odyssey has some exciting features like sliding center row seats, power at every seat so the kids can charge all of their devices, and the HondaVac Vacuum to make cleaning up a breeze.
Another reason Honda caught our attention was the fact that they are made of steel. I’m working with the Steel Market Development Institute to learn more about the importance of steel. I was fascinated to find out that Advanced High-Strength Steel helps with a vehicle’s occupant protection, fuel efficiency, and is more sustainable than its counterparts. In fact, steel is the most efficient material to achieve high-energy absorption and has higher strength than alternative materials. Did you know that steel is the most recycled material on the planet, more than all other materials combined (including paper)!
This was eye-opening for me as I had always discussed purchasing a larger car, a boat as I would joke, for my kids when they started to drive. But, it turns out I would actually rather have my kids driving one of the newer lighter weight vehicles of today than an older vehicle with greater mass. As demonstrated in the video below more mass doesn’t always equal a safer vehicle. Check out this video produced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety highlighting a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air crashing into a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu.
Pretty crazy, right? Needless to say, I have definitely changed my mind about getting my kids an older, larger first car. Instead, I am really looking forward to attending the LA Auto Show and learning more about auto safety advances and how steel provides a wide variety of grades that allow automotive designers to develop softer vehicles to help protect the vehicle’s occupant.
