hello,

San Diego is one of the most kid-friendly destinations in the US, not only do they welcome pint-sized travelers, but they’ve dedicated an entire month to attract more kids to visit. It’s known as Kids Free San Diego and it happens all October long. Kids get to eat, stay, and play at some of San Diego’s most popular places.

I recently wrote about this wonderful promotion and some of my favorite things to do with kids in San Diego for Alamo Rent A Car’s family travel site The Scenic Route. You can find the article in its entirety here. Below I shared 5 of my favorites from that list.

Top 5 Things To Do In San Diego With Kids

LaJolla SeaLion

1. Visit the Local Sea Lions

La Jolla is famously known for their resident sea lion and seal populations. You can find them at the La Jolla Cove Beach. Remember to keep your distance as they are wild animals.

2. Take a Hike at Torrey Pines

One of my favorite ways to kick off a day is with a hike at Torrey Pines. There are several routes easy enough for little legs and the ocean views are totally worth the walk. Plus, there is a great family beach you can enjoy afterwards.

3. Explore the Tidepools at Coronado Beach

Coronado Beach is historically known for the famous Hotel Del Coronado, a luxurious hotel that was frequented by Hollywood elite back in its day. Although, we prefer to head there for the beautiful strip of beach.

Coronado Dunes

There are tide pools for kids to discover, a great beach area for sandcastle building and quaint shops and restaurants nearby. At certain times of the year when the tide is just right you can even view the ruins of an old shipwreck.

4. Boogie Board or Surf at Del Mar Beach

One of the best beaches for boogie boarding and surfing in our opinion is Del Mar Beach. The sand is soft and there are no big rocks or coral to crash into. The waves are just right usually for beginners, too.

5. Rent a Bike and ride around Silver Strand

You can rent traditional bikes, but we are big fans of surrey bikes and the two-seater deuce coupe. The rentals come with a map to help you navigate your way around the Silver Strand.
