Last weekend the munchkin crew headed to the Del Mar Racetrack to cover the Pacific Classic Day for Pitstops for Kids! You can view my post on their site here). We had such an amazing time that I just have to share it with you here too!
Here are my Top 3 Reasons You Should Visit Del Mar Racetrack with kids!
Kids receive FREE admission to Del Mar Racetrack!
YES! You read that right. Kids receive free admission to the track. Adults tickets start as low as $6… although I would spring for the $10 club access so you can have a better view of the finish line. The admission does not include seats however we never even used ours so I wouldn’t waste your money.
Family Day Weekend Infield Activities are also FREE-
Every weekend is Family Fun Weekend at the track. Head past the stands to the tunnel under the track that leads you to the infield. Your little ones will be ecstatic when they see the giant inflatable obstacle course, giant inflatable slide, bounce house, pony rides, face painting, caricatures and stilt walkers. You will be thrilled when you realize the price tag for everything I just mentioned is FREE!!!
It’s pretty hard to beat. And, unlike so many free kids activities where they hire young teens, the crew working at Del Mar was top notch. The women working the bounce house was also a pre-school teacher and she was great when she interacted with Olivia who wasn’t so sure about being inside a giant bounce house. The caricature artist is a world record holder. He completed 45,000 caricatures in 5 years when he worked for Disney. I was impressed.
Gorgeous Location, Gorgeous Horses and the Excitement of the Crowd-
How can you really beat Del Mar? You are right there along the coast with amazing 80 degree weather, blue skies laying the backdrop for the gorgeous architecture of the racetrack buildings… not to mention all of their floral designs— it’s just SO pretty!!
Then you have the most beautiful horses you will ever see. The munchkins and I loved when they would parade them around before the race. They are truly magnificent creatures.
Then you get the hooves thundering against the ground… the crowd cheering as the horses approach the finish line. It is honestly SO exciting. We loved watching from the infield… but nothing compares to standing along the fence directly in front of the finish line on the club level side of the stands. A. M. A. Z. I. N. G!!!!!
Tips for Visiting:
- Bring an ice chest with waters (it’s hot and waters there run $3 each)
- Pack snacks (food is pricey but they do have a ton of options)
- Wear and pack sunscreen (it’s a long day)
- Pack a picnic blanket and you can lay it on the grass along the infield fence. You can watch the races as the kids play for hours!!
I received complimentary entrance to the Del Mar Racetrack for purpose of review for Pitstops for Kids. However ALL opinions and enthusiasm as always are my own.
