I love a good family trip, but a few times a year I look forward to escaping with my friends for a weekend of total relaxation. Moms’ getaways to me are full of total relaxation, pampering, amazing food and drinks, fantastic service (bc usually it is us servicing the family), and poolside lounging. Most recently I escaped with three of my closest mom friends to the Fairmont Grand Del Mar located in sunny San Diego, CA and I have to say it was nothing short of perfect!
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar- a review
SERVICE
This wasn’t my first Fairmont Grand Del Mar experience, I have been fortunate enough to stay at this beautiful luxury resort a few times. So, I arrived with high expectations. The service here is always so great that even with those high expectations I was thoroughly pleased.
Everyone from the bellhop to the pool attendant wears a smile and is eager to find a way to make your vacation that much more special.
The day we arrived we came in pretty late and the adult pool didn’t have any lounge chairs next to each other by the pool. Before we had time to ask the pool attendants offered to move several chairs around and found us two umbrellas- it was awesome!
ROOMS
The rooms at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar are incredibly elegant with spacious marble bathrooms, deep soaking tubs, large balconies, and terraces, plus spectacular views of the resort gardens, The Grand Golf Club or Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
With over 249 well-appointed guest rooms and suites the Fairmont Grand Del Mar also makes a great destination for weddings and events as well.

DINING
Aside from the gorgeous accommodations and sweeping views, the Fairmont Grand Del Mar offers some of the most delicious and unique dining experiences as well. Including their Michelin-starred restaurant, Addison.
Addison (Michelin-starred)
Addison happens to be San Diego’s very first Michelin-starred restaurant under the care of the extraordinary Chef William Bradley. Addison exemplifies the purity of California Gastronomy. I have yet to dine here but their coursed meals served on a secret rooftop terrace with views of Los Peñasquitos Canyon sounds incredibly enticing.
Amaya
Amaya offers al fresco dining under a shaded terrace with beautiful views of the award-winning Tom Fazio golf course.
This is the main restaurant for the resort serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can view Amaya’s menus here. I also love that they often have live music playing on the lawn in front of the restaurant. It really helps to uplevel the experience.
The Clubhouse Grill
Looking for a great lunch, the Clubhouse Grill is perfect! Here you can dine on delicious salads, sandwiches, and main course options while watching the 18th hole action. My recommendation is the Crispy Chicken Sandwich.
*Children 5 and under eat free when ordering from The Clubhouse Grill menu when accompanied by a registered adult guest.
*Children 6-12 years of age can order from The Clubhouse Grill menu and receive a 50% discount when accompanied by a registered adult guest. Children’s dining programs are extended to registered resort guests only. For more details, please inquire with your server.
Cent’Anni Café
If you are looking for a quick bite, iced coffee, or scoop of gelato look no further than the adorable Cent’Anni Café. This is the perfect spot to grab a breakfast sandwich and espresso before hitting the pool or heading to the beach.
THE SPA
The Center For Wellbeing at Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a five-star premier resort spa. It was named one of only 60 Forbes Five-Star spas in the world! The spa offers a comprehensive menu of treatments and has a custom organic product line as well.
On our recent visit they had two beautiful cabanas set up for outdoor spa treatments located near the adult pool that looked super dreamy. I will definitely have to look into a massage or facial on my next visit.
FOR THE LOCALS (and guests to enjoy!)
One of the things I love most about the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is their dedication to hosting super fun events and holiday-themed experiences. You may remember us visiting this past Christmas while the entire resort was transformed into a winter wonderland. They had a massive tree set up in front of Amaya on the lawn with fireside cabanas surrounding it that you could rent out and enjoy with cocktails, hot cocoas, s’mores, and appetizers. It was an absolute blast.NEW- Now they just opened the Del Mar Social Club Locals and hotel guests alike are invited to mix and mingle while playing luxury lawn games at the new Del Mar Social Club. Guests will enjoy innovative wood-fired fare, summer cocktails, live music, and more.
KID-FRIENDLY RATING
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a wonderful spot for families. With 4 heated pools, three of which are family-friendly, a sand area at the main pool, pickleball courts, bikes to borrow, hiking trails, archery, outdoor movies, and the brand new Grand Sweets shop located at the pool families will have plenty to do.
