hello,

While our family loves to travel, conflicting schedules can make it tricky to get away. This Spring Break we decided to make it easy on ourselves and take a vacation close to home. The La Jolla Shores Hotel proved to be the perfect spot to enjoy our favorite things about San Diego…the sun, the surf and the sand!

With over 70 miles of incredible coastline, you would think it would be relatively easy to find a hotel right on the beach in San Diego…and you’d be completely wrong!! As it turns out, the La Jolla Shores Hotel is one of just a few hotels that are actually right on the beach. This proved to be incredibly convenient. We could spend an hour or two at the beach and then be back in our room in just a few minutes if anyone needed to grab anything or just take a break. I was even able to step out on to the balcony and watch my big boys surf while the baby napped!

About our stay:

With 3 boys ages 11, 8 and 18 months, we have a wide range of interests and needs. Surprisingly the La Jolla Shores Hotel had all of them covered! The property is situated right on La Jolla Shores Beach and it’s right next door to an awesome park and playground. This was such a great surprise for my wild and energetic boys. My husband and I usually divide and conquer with the kids (one of us taking the baby, one of us taking the big boys), but this setup (with so many places to play in close proximity) made us feel like we were all still together even when the kids wanted to go in different directions.

When we first arrived the kids immediately wanted to check out the park. After burning off a little energy there it was time to head to the beach for an extra special treat. The Shores Restaurant (located right inside the hotel) offers this amazing service where you can have a BBQ or picnic meal right on the beach. We were able to make all of our meal choices in advance so that all we had to do was show up and then everything was delivered (you have a choice of grilling the food yourself or having the kitchen do it for you). Once the kids finished their food they were able to run around and play in the sand while my husband and I were able to sit together and just enjoy the rest of our delicious meal. I can’t ever remember feeling so relaxed while dining out with our entire family. Everyone agreed that the food was fantastic…the kids even said it was one of their top five meals ever! High praise from my picky eaters 🙂 And as if dinner with an ocean view wasn’t magical enough, having S’mores at sunset definitely put this experience over the top!

The majority of our days at JLH were spent alternating between the pool and the beach (my kids are water babies for sure). The big kids really enjoyed the ping pong tables, too! In the evening we relaxed in the spacious, comfortable rooms. I loved that we could see and hear the ocean from our room. It was laid back, simple and perfect…exactly what we needed in a staycation!

I want to thank the La Jolla Shores Hotel staff for taking such wonderful care of us during our stay. While our requests were minimal, each one was met with fast and genuinely friendly service. We’re thrilled to have a wonderful place to send friends and family when they come to visit!
