How to Make My Fudgy Crunch Ice Cream Cake
The combination of creamy ice cream, rich fudge, and crunchy Oreo pieces creates a dessert that feels decadent and special, yet it only requires a few simple ingredients. Over the years, it’s become more than just a dessert; it’s a family birthday tradition and a memory in itself. Layered with love and served straight from the freezer!
This cake is not only easy on the budget, but it’s also versatile. You can change up the ice cream flavors or add extra toppings if you’re feeling creative. And the best part? It takes minimal prep time—just assemble, freeze, and serve! Follow along for the simple steps to make your own delicious and memorable ice cream cake.
Ingredients
- 2 containers of ice cream (We love Breyers Cookie Dough or Cookies-and-Cream, but feel free to choose your favorite flavor)
- 1 pack of Oreos
- 1 jar of hot fudge sauce
Instructions:
- Prepare the Oreo Layer:
- Start by removing the cream from each Oreo and placing the cookie halves in a large zip-top plastic bag. Seal the bag tightly and crush the cookies with a rolling pin or a heavy object until you have a coarse crumb texture.
- Create the Fudge Mixture:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed Oreos with the hot fudge sauce. For best results, heat the fudge sauce slightly (about 15-20 seconds in the microwave) to make it easier to mix. Stir until the Oreo crumbs are fully coated in fudge, creating a rich and gooey mixture.
- Assemble the Ice Cream Cake:
- In a spring-form cake pan lined with freezer paper, spread a layer of the Oreo fudge mixture on the bottom. This will be the base of your cake and add a crunchy texture.
- Next, scoop out a layer of softened ice cream on top of the Oreo layer and spread it evenly to cover. If the ice cream is too hard, let it sit out for a few minutes to soften slightly.
- Repeat the layers by adding another layer of the Oreo-fudge mixture, then top with more ice cream. Continue until you reach the top of the pan, finishing with a layer of ice cream.
- Freeze the Cake:
- Cover the cake with plastic wrap or foil and place it in the freezer for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight if possible, to allow it to firm up completely.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- When you’re ready to serve, remove the cake from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly, making it easier to slice.
- Add candles if you’re celebrating a birthday, slice, and enjoy! Each bite has the perfect blend of creamy ice cream, fudgy chocolate, and crunchy Oreo pieces.
This cake has become a birthday tradition in our family, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser. The layers of creamy ice cream and crunchy chocolate Oreos make each bite a delicious mix of textures and flavors. Best of all, this homemade treat is much more affordable than buying a pre-made ice cream cake, and you can customize it with your favorite ice cream flavors.
Give this recipe a try for your next celebration, and it might just become a tradition in your family too!
