Liv has been asking for a “rainbow room” for months now and I finally caved. I had a tight budget but I was able to pull off a super cute update to her room by mixing and matching some PotteryBarn Kids bedding with solid comforters and blankets that I found super cheap on Amazon.
We even found a PB Kids dupe beaded ceiling lights that saved $200 bucks!! Here is the PotteryBarn Kids light and here is the cheaper one I found that looks identical on Amazon.
Livvy loved the PotteryBarn Kids rainbow sheet set and coordinating Rainbow Throw Pillow that we purchased. But, instead of layering it with the expensive matching PotteryBarn Kids’ comforters, I opted to grab this cute pom-pom one on Amazon, with this insert and tossed this cute pink blanket over them. I love the way it turned out!
With this option I saved a little cash upfront + I will be able to re-use this basic solid white comforter set as she grows and wants to change her room again. I’ve learned this is a routine, changing the room designs, with the older kids. Seems like each style only lasts 2-3 years before they grow out of it.
With Olivia’s remodel we also splurged on a Storkcraft bed and dresser. She previously had an old bed that I had picked up cheap on Craiglist. The paint was starting to chip and the drawers were super tiny and hard to pull out. It just wasn’t working.
Her NEW Thomasville Kids Harlow Twin Captain’s Bed from Storkcraft was one of the best choices we made. Not only is it a super cute bed but it comes with a rolling trundle and three large storage drawers.
To maximize storage I swapped the trundle mattress for additional storage by placing under the bed storage containers where the mattress is supposed to go. Now with all of this extra storage, her room is totally clutter-free!!!
We also updated Liv’s dresser to Storkcraft’s Graco Hadley 6-drawer dresser. I love the deep drawers and ease of use. It was also super easy to assemble which is always a big plus!
The above hand-painted rainbow decal we found on Etsy turned out really cute and I was impressed with the quality too. You can find it here along with more rainbow decal designs.
Liv inherited a bunch of Disney princess dresses with her sister but never seemed to play with them so I added these hooks and plan to swap the dresses out occassionally so she doesn’t get bored.
She’s already started playing with them so much more now.
Above the dresses I hung several clear acrylic book shelves so that I could display some of Liv’s favorite books. It serves as great wall decor too!
I strung this cute wood garland underneath that I found here on Etsy. I am hoping to add some sort of hanging chair to encourage more reading next.
