If you have been following along on Instagram, then you probably have heard me talk about our most recent home renovation a time or two! We decided to create a space that not only serves as a playroom for our son and daughter but also as a haven for creativity, learning, and growth.
Inspired by the Montessori philosophy, which emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development, we embarked on a journey to design a room that is both functional and inviting.
Come along with me on a playroom tour where I will take you through the thoughtful elements that make up this special space!
Jack and Liv’s Playroom Tour
Our goal was to design a playroom that is clutter-free and tailored to our children’s needs, encouraging them to explore, imagine, and play in a more meaningful way. We incorporated several elements that reflect the Montessori principles of simplicity and accessibility.
Avenlur’s Magnolia Playset
In our quest to create a playroom that not only stimulates the mind but also encourages physical development, we discovered Avenlur’s Magnolia Playset, a magnificent indoor wooden playground that has transformed our space into an oasis of adventure.
It has a rock wall and a little swing. Jack wants to hang out on it ALL the time!
This beautifully crafted playset is the epitome of what we wanted in our Montessori-inspired environment—a perfect blend of functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal.
Leo Mat
Incorporating the Leo Mat into our Montessori-inspired playroom has opened up a world of versatility and joy for our children. With its innovative tri-fold technology, the LeoMat offers over 40 configurations, providing endless possibilities for play, rest, and learning.
The Leo Mat is not just a play mat; it’s a dynamic space that supports a wide range of activities. Liv uses it as the perfect cozy nook for reading her favorite books. She also creatively transforms it into a comfortable chair, pulling it up to her desk for homework sessions. Jack loves to configure it in all different kinds of ways, especially turning it into stairs to run up and down.
And, talk about versatility… our teenagers have claimed it as their own for sleepovers on a few occasions!
Sensory Table
I have always wanted a sensory table and I am so happy to have found this one (and at such an affordable price, too)!
This sensory table features a sturdy, child-friendly design that invites little hands to dig, pour, scoop, and explore a variety of materials. From sand and water to rice and beans, the possibilities for sensory exploration are limitless. This kind of play not only captivates the senses but also enhances fine motor skills, encourages scientific thinking, and promotes creativity.
Play Kitchen
The Cyprus Play Kitchen is equipped with features designed to engage and inspire your little chef. Equipped with engaging features such as clicking oven knobs, an interactive ice maker, and a pull-down faucet sprayer, the Cyprus Play Kitchen encourages immersive pretend play, a crucial aspect of childhood development that fosters creativity, problem-solving, and social skills.
The set comes complete with 14 accessories including a toy phone, cookware, utensils, and pretend food, offering a full culinary experience that stimulates the imagination.
Montessori Bookshelf
A low, accessible bookshelf is crucial for fostering a love for reading and independence. Our selection allows our children to easily choose what they want to read, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility towards their belongings.

Creating a Space for Growth and Exploration
The transformation of this room into a Montessori-inspired playroom is more than just a renovation project; it’s about creating an environment that nurtures our children’s development and respects their individuality. Every element in this room has been chosen to offer our kids a space where they can explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.
We hope this playroom serves as a source of inspiration for those looking to incorporate Montessori principles into their home. It’s a testament to the fact that spaces can be both beautiful and functional, tailored to foster the development of young minds.
As our children grow and their needs evolve, so will this playroom. The beauty of a Montessori-inspired space is that it’s designed to adapt to the changing interests and developmental stages of children. We look forward to seeing how this room will transform along with them, continuing to be a place of comfort, learning, and joy!
