You’ve probably heard it before- there are “coffee people” and there are “tea people”. But why should you have to pick a side? Good news, coffee, and tea fans- that you don’t have to choose a side any longer. Opt instead for a Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino that blends the delicious matcha flavor of a classic green tea brew with the sweet and creamy Frappuccino base, and you’ll have an irresistible hybrid treat that will have you salivating. I love my coffee, but after a cup I get a little jittery, so now I have transitioned to tea in the afternoons. Since I was hooked on the Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino, I decided it’s high time to try making one at home!
This is one of the easiest Starbucks drinks to duplicate at home. By combining just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a delicious green tea Frappuccino in less than 5 minutes! All you need is ice, sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and matcha (green tea) powder.
The best part? For the cost of those ingredients, you’ll be able to make several frappuccinos compared to the cost of buying just one.

DIY Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino Ingredients
All of Starbucks’ frappuccinos start with a whole milk base, which helps give them the distinctively rich and creamy texture and flavor you know and love. In order to make a healthier spin on the classic Frappuccino, you can substitute alternative milk that will still be creamy and delicious but cut the calories and potentially add some health benefits. Here are some options to consider when making a DIY Green Tea Frappuccino.
Milk Type | Calories/1 cup Serving | Average Cost |
Whole milk | 150 cal | $2.19/gallon |
2% milk | 120 cal | $2.19/gallon |
Skim milk | 80 cal | $2.19/gallon |
Soy milk | 100 cal | $3.99/half gallon |
Almond milk | 60 cal | $3.99/gallon |
Oat milk | 90 cal | $5.29/half gallon |
Other than the milk, the most important ingredient in this drink is the green tea powder. While there are many different matcha powders out there, they can vary greatly in taste. It is recommended that you go for a premium powder in order to closer replicate Starbucks’ recipe. If you don’t love the flavor of the Frappuccino, try swapping out a couple of different matcha powders until you find one you love.
Here are a couple of versions of the DIY recipe to try out!

Step 2: Pour into a glass, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!
The Healthy Great Tea Frappuccino Version
This recipe only has a couple of ingredients in the first place, so making healthy swaps can be a bit trickier. Start by using alternative milk, and then consider using a low-calorie sweetener or alternative sugar as well. Try a few different combinations until you find a blend you love!
Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp powdered sugar or sugar alternative
- 1 tbsp + 1 tsp matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup ice
- Whipped cream for topping (optional)
Directions
Step 1: Blend all ingredients until smooth.
Step 2: Pour into a glass, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!
Bonus: Top with berries, granola, or chia seeds for an extra healthy twist!
This sweet frothy drink is definitely going to be one of our favorites all summer long. Best of all, matcha is packed with antioxidants and might lower blood pressure and cholesterol. This means you can have your sweet drink and feel good about it, too!
Protein Green Tea Frappuccino (My favorite version)
We are obsessed with Clean Simple Eats Meal Plans which call for about 30% protein in your diets. That being said drinks like this need an added protein punch.
Here is how to make our protein version of this recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp monkfruit
- 1 tbsp + 1 tsp matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup ice
- 1/2 Serving Vanilla Protein Powder (Clean Simple Eats has the Best Protein Powders out there)
This recipe will result in the most creamy delicious “Starbucks” green tea Frappucino in my personal opinion. The best part, it’s about 100 calories and has 27g of protein and barely any sugar.
