A new drink is taking off in popularity, and for good reason- Starbuck’s Iced Golden Ginger drink. This delicious drink is a wonderful plant-based option for the warmer weather that is finally beginning to roll in! The ginger and turmeric flavors blend perfectly with the pineapple and coconut milk. Trust me, you are going to love this one.
All About This Delicious New Drink
The sweet, summery drink is a perfect refreshing treat that may not be all that bad for you (well, compared with some of their other drinks, anyway!). While it is still up there in sugars (19g in a grande), the golden ginger drink only clocks in at 140 calories. Plus, it is vegan and caffeine-free, which is a great option for anyone trying to go more plant-based or cut back on their caffeine intake.
The only factor that keeps this from being a truly “healthy” drink option is the amount of added sugar. However, when you are making this at home, you are totally in control of that! You can experiment with different flavor options to find something that you love that is much lower in sugar.
To make this new tropical drink, Starbucks baristas use a mixture of flavored pineapple ginger syrup and add in a “golden ginger” powder. This may be the trickiest part of replicating the drink at home, but never fear- it can be done!
There are a couple of different approaches to recreating the iced golden ginger drink at home. The first way uses more pre-made ingredients, which makes it easier to whip up and has a flavor that is slightly closer to Starbucks’ version. The second version is more involved but allows you to cut down the added sugars for a healthier twist. Below you will find both our takes on the delicious new golden ginger drink!

Healthy Starbucks Golden Ginger Drink Recipe
The biggest culprit in the golden ginger drink that makes it “unhealthy” is the added sugars. This is due in part to the use of sweetened syrup, as well as pre-sweetened coconut milk. This recipe is a healthy twist with some customizable options to help you enjoy a guilt-free DIY golden ginger drink!
Ingredients
- 1 piece of fresh ginger about 3” in length, peeled and sliced
- 2 cups of fresh pineapple juice with no added sugars
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ½ cups coconut milk, unsweetened
- ¾ tsp. ground turmeric
- Ice
Directions
Part One: Make Your Golden Ginger Drink Syrup
Step 1. Combine ginger, pineapple juice, and sugar in saucepan and heat to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Step 2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
Step 3. Strain the syrup, and put it in a container. It can be refrigerated for up to 7 days.
Part Two: Combine and Complete
Step 1. Pour syrup, milk, and turmeric into a blender. Blend until smooth, approximately 2 minutes.
Step 2. Strain into glass. Add ice, stir, and enjoy your healthy iced golden ginger drink.
Now all you need is the perfect iced drink tumbler so that you can carry around this yummy iced beverage all summer long! The golden ginger blend with the sweet pineapple is absolutely delicious and so different from many of the other iced drink recipes we’ve tried out.
