As you know we are gearing up for our Hawaiian Extravaganza in the next few weeks. We are super excited about our stay at the Villas at Poipu Kai located in Kauai as it will be our first trip to that island. In anticipation of the trip I connected with Gary Taylor (voice of Poipu Kai Seal on the Villas at Poipu Kai blog) to get the inside scoop on the gorgeous Villas and the best things for families to do while in Kauai.
An Interview with Gary Taylor from the Villas at Poipu Kai
What is unique about the Villas at Poipu Kai?
The Villas at Poipu Kai are the newest Villa property on the island, and the largest square footage of any vacation rental Villa. They offer the privacy of a separate bedrooms and bathrooms, but a living and dining room for family gatherings.
What will guests rave about to their family and friends?
The indoor/outdoor lanai spaces, the gourmet kitchen, the comfy beds, the close access to the beach, and the air conditioning. Most Hawaii rental properties do not offer air conditioning.
What are some “can’t miss” activities on the island of Kauai?
Kauai has tons of activities from spa services and golfing to surfing, scuba diving, horseback riding, kayaking, zip-lining, helicopter tours & more! NaPali offers amazing hiking, world class scenery, zodiac boat tours, sunset dinner cruises and chartered cruises as well. There’s also a variety of yoga offerings on the island.
Are there family friendly restaurants you recommend?
Kauai is filled with great eateries. The ones I include here are particularly family friendly. Visit one or all of them and your kiddos will go home with full bellies and happy hearts.
Brennecke’s Beach Broiler
If you want to stay close to the Villas at Poipu Kai or Poipu in general, your best bet is Brennecke’s Beach Broiler. Located right across the street from Brennecke Beach, the “Broiler” is just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from your busy day playing in the ocean. In addition to their general menu (which is fabulous), Brennecke’s Beach Broiler has what they call a “keiki” menu reserved just for kids. It features kid-friendly dishes such as chicken tenders, pizza, grilled cheese, and hamburgers, all for about $6-$10. Your little ones will feel extra special when they can choose their very own “keiki” mocktail to go along with their meal. For $5.25, you may just want to try the “Pink Panther” blend of strawberries and cream yourself! Just be sure to save some for me! Fortunately for adults, Brennecke’s Beach Broiler has a great variety of entrees and drinks for adults. Come during one of their two happy hours (3:00-5:00 pm and 8:30 pm-closing) to get an even better deal. See more on their website: http://www.brenneckes.com/
Ono Family Restaurant
Need a place to take the family for breakfast? Ono Family Restaurant in Kapa’a is your place! True to its name, this restaurant is perfect for families. The portions are huge and they are very welcoming to young children. Save money and split a dish for less than $10! A few favorites? Try their coconut-macadamia-banana pancakes for breakfast. Or pick from their delicious array of sandwiches and burgers for lunch. Perhaps the greatest treasure you can find at the Ono Family Restaurant is their shaved ice. Is there a better way to finish off the meal? You may find yourself returning again and again just for this famous frozen treat. Your family will love the vibe of this local favorite. Location: 4-1292 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaa, HI 96746; Phone: (808) 822-1710; Open Mon-Sun, 7:00 am – 2:00 pm
Kalapaki Beach Hut
However, if it’s a burger your kids are craving, Kalapaki Beach Hut in Lihue may be your best choice. For under or around $10, you can choose any burger prepares in any way you can possibly imagine! With convenient, family friendly hours (7:00 am-8:00 pm, 7 days a week) and an offering of breakfast and lunch all day, Kalapaki Beach Hut aims to please. Your kids don’t even have to change clothes from their day at the beach – come as you are! This little hut will welcome you with open arms. The fun location and exterior will be sure to endear this restaurant to you and your kids.

Is there anything else you would want families interested in your villas to know?
I love the Kauai Coastal Path. Bring the kids and walk or bike along the path! You’ll enjoy stunning views of the shoreline and ocean – you may even run into a few local critters.
I want to thank Gary Taylor for taking the time to inform us of his amazing island home. We are so excited to be posting live from The Villas at Poipu Kai, Kauai this November.

What a gorgeous resort. Will have to bookmark this for my next vacay! 🙂
When we got married I wanted to go to a Resort in Hawaii for our honeymoon… it wasnt in teh budget but we’ve been saving for one of our anniversaries. This looks beautiful! I have a spreadsheet going and Im going to def add this to the list to keep in mind. How do you travel with so many kids? We just got back from Europe and I thought travelling with one was terrible!
I hope you get to make it to Hawaii for one of your anniversaries. You would love it. Hawaii is a special place. It feels so foreign but its in the U.S. which is pretty cool. It definitely can be trying to travel with so many kids. But, as they have gotten older its gotten much easier. Plus, the more they do it the better they get at it too 😉
This place looks AMAZING!! I believe this is my first time visiting your blog… and I must say, I am so excited. Your page says your blog is about traveling with 5 kids. I am gonna look all through your blog archive and I’m so excited about that ! My husband and I do not have kids yet but when we do, one of our biggest priorties is to travel with them. We actually want to home school our kids and “world school ” them through travel. I bet your blog will teach me something! Can’t wait to dive in! Also, I just followed you on instagram!

I love that… I am collaborating with Rebecca from Children Inspire Design to actually make some really awesome do it yourself crafts and projects for world-schooling and home-schooling parents. You’ll have to stay tuned 😉 I think traveling is such an amazing gift. I know it has helped shape my kids into the awesome little individuals that they are. I am sure if you and your husband love travel then your kiddos will be gifted in the same way. Many thanks for stopping by. Now off to check out your blog some more 😉
Wow, that resort looks absolutely stunning! I’ve never been to Hawaii, but I would love to go! I’m sure my kiddo would love it too!
Yes… Hawaii is super kid friendly!!
I love, love, love traveling with my two kids. Such a valuable experience for them — and fun too. We’ve never been to Hawaii though. Thanks for this great interview. It makes me want to put it on the to-go list.
I completely agree… great educational experiences. I love traveling families. We have some lucky kids. You should def. give Hawaii a shot sometimes. It is a pretty amazing destination 🙂
