When visiting a new destination I am ALL about the food! I mean who wants to travel all the way to Paris and not enjoy a fluffy croissant (preferably stuffed with cheese) or fly nearly 20 hours to Ethiopia and not be able to eat the Spicy Shiro Wat? Not me. Unfortunately, like most travelers, I have had my fair share of vacations ruined because my stomach couldn’t digest the new foods I was indulging in. So, for awhile I actually did forgo eating all the amazing dishes I craved and while my stomach felt better, my trips were not nearly as enjoyable. So, I began researching and experimenting with ways I could still eat what I wanted without feeling horrible. Fortunately for me, I was contacted by the folks at Renew Life about their Digest Smart Enzymes to collaborate on a sponsored post. The company sent me a sample, and paired with the other tips I had learned, they turned out to be exactly what I needed to be able to enjoy all the food I loved again. Check out my tips on how to feel less bloated on vacation, including how the Digest Smart Enzymes work, and then try them out on your next vacation. I promise you will feel so much better!
5 Ways to Stop Feeling Bloated on Vacation
1 Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
It seems counter-intuitive to fill up on liquids when your body is retaining water. But, water-retention is our body’s way of preventing dehydration, so sipping H2O is an excellent way to prevent bloating. I suggest starting early by drinking as much water on the flight over as possible. *TIP- I always buy a large water after getting through airport security and two for long haul flights. I also pack a refillable water bottle as more and more airports feature water bottle refill stations. (Find my healthy airplane snacks here)
2 Stay Active
Eating a large meal may have you feeling like it’s time for a nap. However, studies show that moving around will actually help food move through your stomach much more quickly. Taking a walk or hopping on a bike are two of my go to activities while traveling. Not only does it help me feel less bloated on vacation but it also allows me to soak up more of the gorgeous sights.
3 Slow Down and Savor
Just because you are indulging in the local cuisine doesn’t mean you have to overeat. To prevent over eating and allow your body to digest food properly simply slow down and savor each scrumptious bite. It will help you enjoy your meal more + your body will be able to digest your food better.
4 Adjust to Your New Timezone
The best way to prevent jet lag also happens to be a wonderful aid in helping you feel less bloated on vacation. All you need to do is adjust to the local time as soon as you arrive to your destination. *Tip- If I am trying to stay awake I get outside a.s.a.p. and breathe the fresh air then I find the best local coffee shop and order an espresso. It always does the trick. Then on the other hand, if I know I will need to sleep soon after arriving I try and stay awake on the flight over to ensure I will be ready to catch some zzz’s.
5 Renew Life® Digest Smart Enzymes
Sometimes no matter what type of precautions you take, feeling bloated on a trip will happen. At least that was the case for me. When I am at home I eat a plant-based diet, with an occasional meal of fish, and I cook almost every meal myself. I also eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day.
When I travel it’s the complete opposite. I eat 2-3 large meals and most of the time they are consumed at a restaurant, which also means they probably, contain a higher amount of both fat and salt.
That is where my Renew Life Digest Smart Enzymes come in handy. They contain 25 plant-based, raw enzymes that provide powerful digestive support. All I have to do is take one capsule before each meal and man… what a difference! It totally reduces my occasional bloating and indigestion so I can get back to enjoying all the delicious food I crave while traveling, or even at my local summer festival. Like the fresh baked brioche French toast with poached berries, cinnamon nutmeg whipped cream and cayenne powdered sugar pictured below. That would have done a number on my stomach before. Yet, with Renew Life® Digest Smart Enzymes I felt fantastic even after eating the entire plate!!!
In fact, these capsules have helped SO much I actually ordered more so that I can start using them at home too. And, I ordered the kids version to test out on the munchkins. Shea and Ella both have real sensitive stomachs and I am super excited to see how these chewable tablets work for them on our next trip.

I really like #2. When I go on vacation my mind always wants to relax and my body follows suit. The unfortunate by-product is that I can’t eat all the foods that I really want to. Great reminder to always keep more active!
Hydration is key but I totally need to be better about supplement habits while traveling. Digest Smart looks like something I might need to get!
It has helped me immensely. I would definitely try them out.
