Last summer, Starbucks released their new Star Drink and Starbucks Starfruit Refresher Drink. The star drink is made with starfruit and kiwi juice, plus real kiwi pieces and coconut milk.
The green drink is refreshing and looks very healthy. Not to mention, the pretty pale green color is completely Instagram-worthy just like the ever-popular Pink Drink (which we also have a recipe for here!)
However, with 22g of sugar in a Grande, it isn’t the healthiest option. Plus, Starbucks always removes specialty drinks like this at some point, so in this article, we will walk you through how to replicate the Starbucks Star Drink at home.
It will also help you save a little money, since buying the ingredients will give you the option of making several drinks for a fraction of the price of what you would pay for 1 Starbucks Star Drink from the drive-thru. Another way to potentially save a buck is to play the Starbucks Games on their mobile app (check out our tips for the game here!).
After teaching you how to replicate the drink at home, we’ll also show you how you can make a healthier version of the drink at home if you want all of the flavor without all of the sugar and carbs.
On top of that, we’ve also added a healthy smoothie recipe so you can maximize the nutrition you’re receiving from your delicious Star drink.
Starbucks Star Drink Replica
If you love the Star Drink, this recipe will help you create a close replica of the Starbucks Star drink.
For many people, it may be hard to find Starfruit juice locally. If you can’t find Starfruit juice, the flavor profile is very similar to grapes. So, simply swap Starfruit juice for white grape juice if you can’t find Starfruit juice. If you do need to swap starfruit juice for grape juice, consider buying a fresh starfruit and adding that in with the kiwi to bring in the authentic flavors of the Starbucks version.
What you’ll need:
- 3 oz starfruit juice or white grape juice
- 3 oz kiwi juice
- 6 oz coconut milk
- 3 oz coconut water
- 1 small kiwi
- Ice
To make the drink, start by combining the first 5 ingredients in a blender. This will help chop up your kiwi into small pieces and also help mix all of the liquids together. Next, pour the blended liquids into a cup of ice and shake. Enjoy!
You could also turn this into a Frappuccino-type beverage if you add ice to the blender and blend everything together.
Now you know how to replicate the drink at home so you can continue enjoying it during the cooler months if you want or even make it next summer if Starbucks doesn’t re-release it. However, if you love the drink and could easily drink it every day, you might want to create a lightened-up version below to save yourself some calories.
DIY Starbucks Starfruit Refresher
During the summer, who isn’t watching their weight? Everyone wants to slim down and tone up when it comes to swimsuit weather. But that can be tricky when you also have a love for a sweet drink like the Starbucks Starfruit Refresher drink. If you want all of the deliciousness of the Starbucks Star drink without all of the calories and guilt, follow this recipe.
What you’ll need:
- 3 oz starfruit juice or white grape juice
- 1 fresh Kiwi
- 3 oz coconut water
- Ice
Store-bought juice is packed with sugar and empty calories. To make a lighter version of the drink, start by making juices from the fresh versions of the fruit. You can do this in the blender or with a juicer. If you puree the fruit in a blender, you will need to strain it before adding it to your drink.
Once you have your juice, add coconut water, and ice.
Now that you have the make-at-home recipe, as well as lightened up version, it can be helpful to think about how you might make the most of your Starbucks Star drink when you’re making it at home.
Healthy Starbucks Star Drink Smoothie
Even with the lightened-up version, consuming calories throughout the day can add up and cause weight gain. This recipe takes the delicious flavors of the Starbucks Star Drink and utilizes those to create a meal-replacement smoothie. Instead of drinking empty calories from juice, you can still get great protein, fiber, and vitamins from this smoothie recipe. Enjoy the same great taste of the Starbucks Star Drink without any guilt.
What you’ll need:
- 4 fresh starfruit
- 2 fresh kiwi
- 6 oz almond milk
- 3 oz coconut water
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
- ½ cup spinach
- Ice
Since you’re making a smoothie instead of a drink, you can simply add all of the ingredients to a blender, pulse, and drink. However, if the texture of the starfruit skin in your smoothie bothers you, you can follow the tips from the lightened-up version and strain your starfruit first or use a juicer to make starfruit juice – then add that to the other ingredients and blend.
The addition of protein powder plus spinach and fruit makes this a meal replacement drink you could enjoy for breakfast or lunch. Imagine lounging by the pool with this pretty and healthy beverage in your cup. Other add-ins you could consider for your smoothie would be chia seeds or collagen.
While Starbucks drinks are incredibly delicious, they are often packed with sugar and calories. Fortunately, you don’t have to sacrifice your waistline for a delicious drink! You can find alternatives to have at home that are made with healthier ingredients.
Other Starbucks Star Drink Recipe Options
Another recipe option for you to make this drink is easy! You’ll need just a few things. First, start with some dragon fruit flavored juice and real starfruit. I guess you can also call this one the “Dragon Drink,” which we think is a neat name!
You can usually find dragon fruit-flavored juice at your local grocery store, and you can get fresh starfruit at many Asian markets or specialty produce stores. You’ll also need some freeze dried kiwi and green coffee extract.
To make the Star Drink, start by blending together the dragon fruit-flavored juice, starfruit, and freeze-dried kiwi in a blender until smooth. Then, add in the green coffee extract and blend again until everything is well mixed. Pour the mixture into a glass and enjoy it shaken with ice.
The Starbucks kiwi starfruit refresher tastes very similar to the Star Drink, but it’s made with slightly different ingredients. To make this drink at home, you’ll need some kiwi-flavored juice and real starfruit. You’ll also need some freeze-dried kiwi and green coffee extract.
