Our entire family LOVES a beachfront home! From the sounds of the waves gently crashing down on the sandy shores to the cool breeze on your face giving you a brief moment of relief from the hot beach sun, we are a beach loving family! Are you in love with a gorgeous beach house?
The main reason why we love vacation rentals, is because all of the luxury of enjoying a beach house are clicks away for you! There are so MANY oceanfront beach house rentals in the United States.
We do consider ourselves luxury “resortist” and really cannot turn down a nice resort vacation. Oceanfront beach house rentals, on the other hand, allow us to slip into a fantasy and truly envision what life would be like if you lived right there on the beach.
It’s not for everyone. We love to think of ourselves as carefree people, but some of us have a real hard time unplugging, disconnecting, and stepping away from the harried grind that is our 9 to 5 life.
Try booking an oceanfront beach house rental today and find out firsthand if it’s truly the life for you!
Before You Book
There are a number of factors to consider before you book and start counting off the days to your blissful retreat. Taking the time beforehand guarantees an easy peasy experience instead of a slew of last minute curveballs that complicate your good time.
How close is it to the beach?
Remember the golden rule of booking an oceanfront beach house rental– beach view and beachfront are not the same thing!
If you truly want to pop outside and instantly be in a beach paradise, beachfront or oceanfront are the only acceptable terms. “Beach view” might have you several blocks from the action and, while still relatively close, you’ll need to cart all your things. This can be problematic for those in your party with mobility issues as well.
If you really want to be right there and have the ability to go in and out of your home while you’re renting, oceanfront is the way to go.
To be 100% crystal clear, ask for the address of the property so you can map it ahead of time. This way you can see it from an objective source that you’re right on the water!
How do you deal with the sand?
Beach critics love complaining about the sand, and they’re not entirely wrong. It gets all over your feet, your towels, tents, inside your bags– literally everywhere! And then what? You’re just expected to drag it into the house?
The most premium rentals give you a solution to the problem by including a dedicated room in the entryway for ditching the sandy stuff, while some even include outdoor or semi-outdoor showers for rinsing the sand right off!
It’s not an imperative must-have, but it sure is nice to have!
Which way is it facing?
In a perfect world, you get a balcony that faces west and another that faces east so you can catch the sun no matter what it’s up to.
Not all rentals can accommodate this, so consider which way your rental is facing before you book. If it’s facing west, you get to sit out front and take in an amazing sunset each evening. If it’s east, then be ready to be up bright and early with a morning coffee and the sun greeting you with vibrant orange and yellow hues.
If it’s facing north or south, you likely will still see something magical, but consider only east or west facing rentals if the perfect Instagram photo is a must-have for your getaway.
To pool or not to pool?
That is the question.
Sure, the ocean is right there, but inclement weather or choppy waves may cause you to reconsider venturing out. Plus, night swims, while magical, could be dangerous in open water, so a well-illuminated pool back home does the trick quite nicely to compensate.
Some oceanfront beach house rentals will include a hot tub as well! There’s never anything wrong with a little jacuzzi action in the evening after a long day sprawled out on the beach!
Consider these factors before you book.
Are there amenities?
Remember our spiel about getting away from it all on a private beach house?
That’s a great vacation, if you’re into being on your own and uninterrupted, unencumbered, just truly free for a few days. To others, they like a little bit of amenities and communities as well.
For those that want the best of both worlds, many beach house options are part of an exclusive community that may provide access to restaurants, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, yacht clubs, pro shops, and world-class spa services.
If you’d like some extras included, make sure to deep dive before you book. It’s better to know what you’re getting up front than find out you booked something that’s missing an important must-have from your list!
Read the fine print!
What’s the most, the most important thing to check before booking?
The cancellation policy.
Don’t get us wrong. We love to leap before we look and YOLO our way through moments at times, but you don’t want to have life happen at the last minute, wind up canceling the vacation, and then find out that your deposit is gone forever or, worse, you’re still on the hook for the whole stay!
Review the cancellation policy and make sure it’s reasonable for your circumstances before you finalize. Maybe it won’t matter, but it might matter a great deal!

What are the best states for oceanfront rentals?
What do you picture when we say “oceanfront” or “beachfront”? If it’s sunshine and sandy beaches, you can’t do much better than California, Florida, or Hawaii, but you’ll also find good spots in North Carolina, Georgia, and more.
If you’re picturing rocky crags and piers, Northwestern states like Oregon and Washington are great, as well as the Northeastern ones like Maine, Massachusetts, and more.
Do I need to bring my own boat to my rental?
Many oceanfront rentals know that you’re coming to vacation, and the owners want to make things super easy for you.
As such, they may include private docks, mooring buoys, and boats such as powerboats, rowboats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and more. Not all rentals include this super big perk, so peruse the listing if you need to know if you’re schlepping your stuff or not.
If you can’t bring your own boat and there’s none provided by the owners, don’t fret! There’s often a rental shop not far away that provides everything you could need to have some fun in the sun!
